Expansion of Medicaid Family Planning Waivers Could Avert 500,000 Unplanned Pregnancies Each Year
posted on 9/5/2006

A new analysis from the Guttmacher Institute shows that providing contraceptive services to all women at the same level at which pregnancy services are covered would prevent nearly 500,000 unplanned pregnancies each year and avert $2.3 billion in costs from unplanned births. Such an expansion would also prevent nearly 200,000 abortions, a reduction of 15%.
