Report Says Medicaid Cuts Bad for Women

A report released Wednesday by the National Women's Law Center says that the recent Medicaid cuts enacted by the Missouri General Assembly will disproportionately hurt women.

The report says that Medicaid in Missouri provides health care for low-income women who comprise 79 percent of non-elderly, non-disabled adults.

Missouri's Medicaid program is slated for extinction on June 30, 2008. The cuts enacted this year eliminated at least 90,000 people. The harshest cut eliminated nearly 70,000 working parents--most of whom are single moms--from the program.
